Could another Liverpool youngster be about to burst onto the scene next season?
Liverpool player Jordon Ibe has been speaking as he looks ahead to a new campaign at Anfield.
In quotes published by the Liverpool Echo, the 18-year-old revealed the benefit of playing on loan last season for Birmingham City along with his hopes for the future.
Ibe made 11 appearances for the Championship side, scoring one goal and providing one assist in that time. But it was the very fact that he enjoyed regular first-team football that was the most important thing in his continuing development.
“The experience of playing week in, week out in the Championship in high pressure matches really helped me,” Ibe said.
“I’m feeling good and hopefully I can really push on this season.”
Big things are expected of Ibe, whose three senior appearances for Liverpool to date have seen him lay on two assists.
His talent is clear for all to see, and with Luis Suarez departed and Brendan Rodgers keen to promote from within wherever possible, expect to see more of the winger in the coming months.
“All the youngsters here know that if they are good enough they will get a chance,” Ibe said.
And surely that is all the motivation the next crop of potential Anfield legends need, the knowledge that Rodgers will give them the chances in a side who could go on to become one of the best in Europe once more given the young talent currently being developed at the club.
After all, Raheem Sterling is only 19 and he has already blossomed for both Liverpool and England.
“Raheem is only a year older than me but I look up to him and speak to him a lot,” Ibe added. “I watch him a lot and learn from him, as well as all the senior players.”
Last year was Sterling’s breakout season. Could this one be Ibe’s?
