The October Watershed: What new games will you be buying?

Assassins Creed Unity Screen Cap 1

While things are quiet we look ahead with anticipation to the slew of games coming in October.

It’s certainly going to be a busy month games-wise and with some big AAAs jostling for position October is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive month for new games.

At the beginning of the month Alien Isolation, Dragon Age Inquisition, DriveClub and Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor all land at once. All are cross-platform games and on 8th gen with the exception of DriveClub, Sony’s premiere next gen racer that finally hits PS4 after development woes.

Seriously good looking racer

From the glut of titles above DriveClub with its super-realistic visuals may have a marked effect on the PS4 game charts. Alien Isolation wants to impress fans of the films and recreate the tension with an emphasis on stealth that will allow you to play through the game without killing anyone.

Dragon Age: Inquisition has just come out as the critics choice of RPG following E3 and with a distinct lack of big RPGs (Bound by Flame came close) for the next gen consoles Bioware’s shiny new Dragon Age title will be turning a lot of heads.

It aint an Inquisition without Dragons!

Right at the beginning of the month Super Smash Bros hits 3DS which no doubt will take Nintendo’s handheld by storm. Skylanders Trap Team comes out for just about everything soon after kicking off the next super-lucrative NFC figure collection craze.

Sunset Overdrive 1

On rails shooter?

n response to PS4’s DriveClub the competing console players have their own exclusives to shout about. Xbox with Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive, a characterful post-apocalyptic parkouring shooter tapping into the seamless multiplayer trend and Bayonetta 2’s canny repositioning on Wii U makes Nintendo’s console a big draw for fans.

For those still on 7th gen Borderlands The Pre-sequel won’t be on PS4 and Xbox One. Visceral’s cops and robbers game Battlefield Hardline and the very promising survival horror The Evil Within will both also be cross platform to include PS3 and Xbox 360.

Some new October titles are showing a move away from last gen however. The much hyped asymmetric multiplayer shooter Evolve and Ubisoft’s French Revolution themed return to Assassin’s Creed will both be 8th gen/PC only.
