Pepe Reina's long-running transfer saga with Napoli continues to surprise and it seems that the Spanish shot-stopper could stay at Liverpool after all.
Reina was sent on loan to Napoli last season and impressed in Serie A, helping Napoli to third place and winning the Italian Cup.
Napoli have been trying to sign Reina on another loan and Liverpool appear to be happy to let him leave but would rather sell him outright, so finance has been a problem from the off.
The wages that Reina expects are beyond Napoli and talks over a pay cut have advanced slowly, although they did seem to be getting somewhere.
But now, Reina has unexpectedly suggested that he wouldn't mind staying at Liverpool, despite indicating in the past that he feels he has no future there.
"It's not like starting from nothing, I was only away for a year.
"I am happy to return to Liverpool because they have always treated me very well."
It seems like something of a U-turn from Reina and suggests that talks over a Napoli contract have stalled in recent days.
While Reina is generally popular with Liverpool fans, he may struggle to find any game time and could become frustrated if he's left warming the bench.
