Predicted Chelsea XI for next season - Including Varane and Khedira

Mourinho Press Conference Still

Here's Chelsea's possible team for next season based on current players and potential signings.

Chelsea have as good a chance as any other team of winning the Premier League next season.

Jose Mourinho deserves massive credit for assembling a very impressive side and reports suggest he’s not finished as he tracks Sami Khedira over a potential move.

Chelsea started their pre-season campaign with an impressive win at Wycombe which gave the more established players some game time and younger stars the chance to impress.

Here’s the side Mourinho could start the season with.

GK – Thibaut Courtois

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone described him as the best goalkeeper in the world and he stands a great chance of being number one ahead of Petr Cech.

RB – Cesar Azpilicueta

Arguably Chelsea’s most consistent defender last season, which is remarkable as he was playing on the left hand side of the back four.

CB – Raphael Varane

If Mourinho manages to pull off a move for Varane, it would be a superb piece of business for one of the most talented young defenders in the world.

CB – John Terry

Terry was one of the first back for pre-season and he’s a great, experienced option to have in the heart of the back four.

LB – Filipe Luis

Luis joins the club to add balance to the defence. His potential relationship with Eden Hazard could be world class.

RM – Willian

Willian had an inconsistent World Cup but he can make things happen at key times during important games.

DM – Nemanja Matic

Matic’s job for the coming season is simple; dig and in and protect the defence. He’s a big and intimidating unit.

CM – Sami Khedira

Khedira’s move to Arsenal seems to have fallen through and the Blues could make a move of their own. He’s a good centre midfield option because he can drop off and double up with Matic when he needs to.

AM – Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas is perfectly capable of playing the number ten role in behind the main striker. Chelsea will try and get the ball to him as quickly as possible.

LM – Eden Hazard

The Belgian was the standout attacking player last season. He’ll be presented with fresh challenges this season and needs to respond well.

ST – Diego Costa

Costa’s job will be to sit at the top of the attack and create real problems for the opposition defence. He may take time to adjust but could be a special player.
