Manchester City latest: Midfielder staying and Hearts match imminent

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City news has been dominated by one man today, with Yaya Toure revealing that he wants to stay at the club.

That comes after constant speculation surrounding his future for much of the summer, after comments regarding an alleged birthday snub set the ball rolling…and the tongues wagging.

However, Toure has told Sky Sports News that he is not going anywhere, despite rumours that both Paris Saint-Germain and – inexplicably – Manchester United were both interested.

“There has been a lot of speculation but they’ve always been good with me and good with my family,” Toure said.

“I want to say that I will always honour my contract and stay as long as possible and don’t think about all the speculation saying that I’m leaving.”

“Everything is fine now,” he concluded, putting to bed what threatened to drag on for the entire summer.

It will be good news for City fans, but the Manchester Evening News is running a poll to see exactly what the Blues’ faithful think about the Ivory Coast midfielder and his latest comments.

And finally, City take on SPL side Hearts this evening in their latest pre-season friendly. The game is another chance for Manuel Pellegrini to assess his side ahead of what is going to be a tough campaign considering the strengthening that is well under way at many of their domestic rivals.
