Holger Badstuber, previously suggested as a target for Manchester United, is set for a comeback from a remarkable injury spell.
Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber is set to make his first appearance for the German champions for 19 months, when he takes part in Bayern’s first pre-season friendly today against Fanclub Red Baroons.
Badstuber has been suggested as a potential signing for Manchester United in the past, but there have been lingering doubts over his fitness since he suffered a cruciate ligament injury against Borrusia Dortmund in 2012.
It’s a boost for Pep Guardiola ahead of the new season because it gives him extra options to use in his back four.
Manchester United and plenty of other sides may be linked with him over the rest of pre-season but when he has so little recent match history to back him up, it would be a massive risk for any club trying to buy him.
“It's the kind of game where I can gain confidence, strength and stamina. It will do me good,” he told the Bayern Munich website.
Fingers crossed he makes it through the game with no repercussions.
