A high volume of gamers getting onto Bungie's Destiny demo bring services to a standstill
Early indicators for the popularity of Bungie’s ambitious new shooter Destiny were shown when heavy traffic put a massive strain on both Bungie’s site and the PlayStation Network
This forced Bungie to announce yesterday that beta codes would be emailed to players who would normally access them via their Bungie.net profiles. Bungie took to twitter saying,
http://t.co/4ucwiEHvaJ is experiencing heavy traffic right now. Beta codes will be emailed shortly. Updates to follow!— Bungie Help (@BungieHelp) July 17, 2014
It seems the mad Destiny rush also had an effect on the PlayStation network with a message appearing to say, “The PlayStation Network is currently experiencing high volume and users may experience issues when connecting to the service. We will update you with any changes that may occur in regards to this issue. Thank you for your patience.”
Sony has since updated the that PlayStation Network is back up and running.
Meanwhile an Activision press release heralding the start of the Destiny beta reminds participants that playing on Saturday, 26th July, from 10:00pm GMT will earn an exclusive in-game emblem.
