United fans react on Twitter to van Gaal's first press conference

Louis van Gaal - suited and booted

Louis van Gaal had his first press conference as manager of Manchester United on Thursday, but what did the fans make of it?

It had been a long time coming, but finally on Thursday afternoon Louis van Gaal strode onto the stage to take questions not as coach of the Netherlands but as the manager of Manchester United.

He did not disappoint, referring to the fact that it had been a dream of his to manage the club, that there was never any question of him taking a break between jobs and that the playing squad would all have the chance to impress him in the weeks ahead.

There was no big revelation, no announcement of a mega-money signing such as Arturo Vidal or Mats Hummels, but the event was in stark contrast to David Moyes' first press conference in the same role.

Van Gaal emits not just confidence but also experience.  And yet there is a glimmer of humility that bodes well for United as they enter this new phase in their history.

The 62-year-old Dutchman is the manager many fans wanted.  And now they have him.  So what did they think of his first role as United boss?

After the press conference, we took to Twitter to see what United fans had to say, and below you can find a selection of what we found:
