Sami Khedira’s future at Real Madrid may be wrapped up in uncertainty at the moment, but it seems that he still has ‘positive’ remarks to make about the club.
In recent weeks, speculation has been rife that the Germany international midfielder will join Arsenal. Reports have been circulating that the 27-year-old, whose current contract with the European champions runs out at the end of next season, wants more money than he is being offered to sign a prospective new deal. Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Khedira because of the Jose Mourinho connection.
However, it appears that the former Stuttgart star still has ‘positive’ things to say about Madrid.
‘Naturally I spoke briefly to him (Khedira) about the club’, Toni Kroos told reporters. ‘Everything he told me was positive and this has of course made me confident that I have made a great decision in coming to this club.
‘What Sami does in the future has nothing to do with me - it’s a decision between him and the club, and we will see what happens’.
Kroos made the remarks during his first press conference as a Madrid player on Thursday, having joined the 32-time Spanish champions from Bayern Munich on a six-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee (click here to read more).
Kroos and Khedira are Germany international teammates and helped their country win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Understandably, the duo spoke to each other about Madrid, especially as Kroos hinted during the tournament that he had made up his mind to move to the Spanish club.
Of course, Khedira is not going to make any negative remarks about the club that has helped him establish himself as one of the most well-known players in the world in four years, but does it mean that the 27-year-old is still ready to commit his future to Madrid?
Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reported on Thursday morning that Khedira is now ready to sign a new contract at Madrid (click here to read more), and given that he has been telling Kroos – a potential competitor for a place in Los Blancos’s starting line-up next season – ‘positive’ things about Madrid perhaps implies that he is not exactly determined to severe his four-year relationship with the club yet.
It is looking increasingly likely that the future of Khedira will be resolved in the next few weeks. Whether the defensive midfielder will move to Arsenal or remain at Madrid remains to be seen.
