Just days after it was suggested Arsenal were closing in on a move for Sami Khedira, the Real Madrid midfielder is now reportedly seeking a new deal at the Bernabeu.
That is the claim from Spanish newspaper El Confidencial on Thursday morning, with the German international allegedly performing something of a U-turn and seeking a renewal on a contract that currently runs until the summer of 2015.
It was recently claimed that Arsenal had agreed a fee with Real for the 27-year-old, but now El Confidencial claims Khedira regrets not signing a deal that was previously offered to him.
Perhaps most interestingly, the player reportedly wishes to issue a statement declaring that he has not agreed a deal with any club.
It had been widely suggested that the player would join his former Real colleague Mesut Ozil at Arsenal this summer. And following Arsene Wenger’s impressive business to date, the proposed signing of Khedira was seen as the final piece of the jigsaw.
But if the latest story is true, it appears the Gunners will need to keep looking for a new defensive midfielder of the quality of the newly-crowned World Cup winner.
