Arsenal have completed the signing of Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle.
The deal was sealed less than an hour after Newcastle announced the signing of their own new right-back Daryl Janmaat from Feyenoord.
Debuchy replaces Bacary Sagna, who left on a free transfer to champions Manchester City after his contract expired.
Arsenal fans should take heart from the fact French boss Didier Deschamps selected Debuchy ahead of Sagna at the World Cup.
Debuchy will compete with Carl Jenkinson and Hector Bellerin for a spot at Arsenal, but is expected to be first choice.
The defender told Arsenal.com: "He said: “I’m very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the whole world.
"I’m looking forward to working with Arsène Wenger and to helping the team build on last season’s FA Cup success. Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies.”
