Real Madrid finally completed the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos today, with the German international reportedly moving to the Spanish capital for a fee believed to be in the region of £20m. The 24-year-old starred at the World Cup and will partner Luka Modric in the centre of the Madrid midfield - and he says he can help the club win the Champions League again.
"I want to give my thanks to Real Madrid for giving me this opportunity, the possibility to play at a club, which for me, is the most important club in the world. I also want to thank Bayern Munich for allowing me the opportunity of moving to Real Madrid."
"I know how important it is for Real Madrid to win titles and I’m the right man for that, because in recent years I’ve known nothing but success. In 2013 I won the Champions League with Bayern Munich. In 2014 it was Real Madrid and I want to repeat that again this year."
With Kroos now a Madrid player and compatriot Sami Khedira reportedly set to sign a new contract, the competition for places in midfield will be as fierce as ever. Former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso has been linked with a move to Napoli with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez as a result, but the agent of the experienced midfielder says he won't be leaving.
"I want to deny rumours that there has been any contact with Napoli," he said. "They have never been in contact with us. I can assure you that Xabi will remain with Real Madrid.”
Elsewhere, Espanyol have swooped to sign former Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo. The Ecuadorian had a successful spell with Levante in the 2010/11 season, and will return to La Liga with the Barcelona-based side - and the 25-year-old can't wait to get started.
"I’m very happy to be at Espanyol and I’m really excited," said Caicedo. "I can’t wait to get started, to train and be with the team."
