World championship leader Rosberg unveiled the new design on Twitter this week. It features a distinctive black, red and gold colour-scheme, as well as the World Cup trophy and four stars, one for each of Germany's titles.
However he is now likely to be forced into a change, as FIFA do not allow unlicensed use of their trademarked images. That will mean removing the World Cup trophy, though he should be able to keep the stars.
But if he wishes to dig his heals in, Rosberg may point to a similar case from F1's past. After Italy's 2006 World Cup win, Jarno Trulli included an image of the trophy on his helmet at the French Grand Prix.
