Chelsea's transfer business continued on Wednesday with the arrival of Atletico Madrid left back Filipe Luis, but skipper John Terry has highlighted another summer signing - Cesc Fabregas. The former Arsenal midfielder has joined the Blues from Barcelona for £30m, and Terry believes that the Spaniard can replace Frank Lampard, who left the club this summer.
"He’s a very good signing," Terry said of Fabregas. "He is great on the ball, a great box-to-box player, he scores an awful lot of goals as well and he has got an aggressive streak in him too – I certainly remember that from his Arsenal days. I’m sure he is going to fit in really well at Chelsea and do well in the years to come."
Meanwhile, another Spanish Chelsea midfielder has been in the news today, but this time it's Oriol Romeu. The 22-year-old joined the Blues back in 2011 from Barcelona, and impressed under Andre Villas-Boas, but saw his career stagnate after Roberto di Matteo was appointed as manager in 2012.
Just back from a season-long loan with La Liga outfit Valencia, Chelsea have made a surprise decision by extending Romeu's contract. The former Spain Under-21 international had just one year left to run on his contract, and in order to make sure that they get a fair fee for him if he is sold, Chelsea have handed Romeu a new three-year-deal. With rumours linking John Obi Mikel with a summer exit, Romeu could have the chance to impress Jose Mourinho in pre-season.
One young player who could be leaving the club though is striker Patrick Bamford. The 21-year-old has spent time out on loan at League One side MK Dons of late, scoring 21 goals in 44 games before stepping up to the Championship for another loan spell, this time with Derby County.
His goalscoring feats continued, as the England Under-21 international scored eight goals in 21 games for the Rams, and now Chelsea want to see if the former Nottingham Forest prodigy has what it takes to make another step up, with the Blues looking to loan him out to a Premier League club.
