Izzy Brown bagged a brace for Chelsea in a 5-0 friendly win against Wycombe Wanderers.
Chelsea got their pre-season campaign off to a great start as Jose Mourinho watched his side defeat football league Wycombe Wanderers 5-0 away from home.
Mourinho opted for a combination of youth and experience in his match day squad, leaving the likes of John Terry, Kurt Zouma, Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic on the bench for the first-half.
Mourinho split his team for each half of the game, with Izzy Brown featuring in the second 45 minutes and grabbing two goals for the side to leave an impression on the mind of his first team coach.
He will most likely feature in the youth teams and the UEFA youth League this coming season, but is doing himself no harm at all in terms of potentially getting a chance in a competition such as the League Cup.
One of the traits from Mourinho’s second spell at the club has been the investments he’s urged the club to make in younger players.
The Blues had well over 20 players out on loan last season, which included deals for several younger players as the boss urged them to get more first team experience than he could offer at Stamford Bridge.
It’s now up to Brown to continue impressing in pre-season if he has an eye on a loan move himself, which could benefit him on a professional level and the club in the future.
While he’s still a very raw young man, he showed great potential to mix it alongside some of the club’s more established players in a setting that could have seen him go into his shell in front of Mourinho.
Here’s what Chelsea fans made of the impact he made last night on Twitter.
Izzy Brown must be nurtured in the right way, not sent out on loan to be forgotten about like Josh. Top top talent. Always impresses me.— Adam (@dribsy27) July 16, 2014
