The Reds have been searching for defensive reinforcements ever since they saw their title challenge collapse on that fateful night at Selhurst Park, with Liverpool inexplicably throwing away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3, allowing Manchester City to swoop in and take the Premier League crown.
So far, the departure of Luis Suarez has meant that manager Brendan Rodgers has to focus on bringing in attacking players, with Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana joined by Benfica's Lazar Markovic this summer. Emre Can has also arrived from Bayer Leverkusen, but Rodgers must now strengthen that defence.
The most troublesome area at the moment is without question left back, where the injury to Jose Enrique last season left the Reds short, pressing right sided John Flanagan or Glen Johnson into action in unfamiliar territory.
The top target all summer has been Sevilla's Moreno, with the 22-year-old blossoming as one of the top young players in Spain since breaking through in 2012. The deal has been on and off for the majority of the summer, with the two clubs seemingly unable to agree a suitable deal despite Liverpool loaning striker Iago Aspas to the La Liga outfit.
And now, they could be set to lose out on the Spanish international after reports in Spain revealed that Atletico Madrid have made an enticing offer for the left back.
AS claim that the La Liga champions have offered Sevilla €15m, as well as full back Javier Manquillo and striker Leo Baptistao for Moreno, as they look to land a left back in order to replace Filipe Luis, who signed for Chelsea on Wednesday in a £20m deal.
Liverpool will now have to work hard in order to try and beat Diego Simeone's men to the youngster, as staying in Spain could be more appealing than the upheaval of moving to Merseyside.
