Former Manchester United player turned coach Nicky Butt has been speaking about the club’s new Spanish signing Ander Herrera.
The former Athletic Bilbao man was tipped to move to Old Trafford last summer, only for the deal to fall through. But now the 24-year-old is officially a United player, and Butt is particularly happy about that.
In an interview with the Manchester Evening News, the ex-England international said, “I watched Ander a few times last season on scouting trips having a look at him. He didn’t play in one match, so that was a waste of time. But he impressed me in the matches I did see him.
“He is a very talented boy and speaks English, which is always a help coming over to England.”
While Herrera will be able to converse with all his new teammates, there is likely to be a special bond between him and his countrymen David de Gea and Juan Mata, and this Spanish trio are set to be among United’s most important players next season.
But that ability to settle in quickly will no doubt help Herrera as he looks to impress his teammates, the fans and, most importantly, the new man in charge Louis van Gaal.
Familiar to the majority of United fans only though his presence in the gossip columns it is now time for the diminutive Spaniard to show what he can do on the pitch.
