The north London club could be about the re-enter the race to sign former Barcelona and Inter Milan star Samuel Eto’o on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old had previously been linked with a move to Turkey amid reports suggesting Besiktas would be willing to pay the three-time Champions League winner some £6.5million-a-year to move to the Istanbul club.
However that offer now looks to be off the table after the Turkish giants completed a deal with Chelsea for Demba Ba which will see the former Newcastle United man head to the club as part of an £8 million deal.
And while that transfer has clear the way for Diego Costa’s arrival from Atletico Madrid it could also ultimately see Eto’o to remain in England, having already attracted attention from Spurs.
According to a story from Eurosport which quotes Italian Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Lilywhites have renewed their interest in the Cameroon forward amid concerns over the lack of top-level strikers currently on their books.
Emmanuel Adebayor is already set to miss a chunk of pre-season after contracting a mild case of malaria while Roberto Soldado looks to be on his way out of the club amid reports linking him with a £15 million switch to Inter Milan.
And with Spurs continuing to battle the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United for Queens Park Rangers forward Loic Remy, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino could move to bring Eto’o in and ensure the Lilywhites are fully-stocked in the final third going into the start of the season.
The ex-Inter forward has previously expressed a desire to remain in England having enjoyed his brief spell at Stamford Bridge.
Hat-tricks against Arsenal and Manchester United were the undoubted highlights, but Eto’o is thought to be determined to prove Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wrong after the Special One landed himself in hot water over comments he made that appeared to question the forward’s true age.
