The Daily Mail has suggested that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is not a happy man after Jack Wilshere was caught smoking yet again.
Wenger was public in his condemnation of Wilshere’s first captured offence outside a nightclub and he could come down hard on the England international after he was snapped smoking as he relaxed with England teammates.
“Wenger, who is a staunch anti-smoker, is said to be far from impressed by the photographs of Wilshere, together with England team-mates Joe Hart and James Milner, behaving outrageously in Vegas,” writes Sami Mokbel.
One of the main things Wenger changed when he first came in at the club was the way players ate and looked after themselves away from the pitch.
Wenger demands his players maintain an elite level of physical health so it’s reasonable to suggest that he may look to punish his midfield man after this latest incident.
There are a number of ways he could go about that such as a warning, a fine or even worse, preventing him from playing.
Considering the number of central midfield options Wenger has at his disposal the latter isn’t out of the question despite the glimpses of form that Wilshere showed at the World Cup.
Common sense will prevail because Wenger is a very experienced boss.
It’s unlikely that Wilshere has only ever smoked twice in his life, happening to get caught on camera both times when he’s indulged in a habit that many enjoy on a daily basis.
However, the boss needs everyone signing from the same hymn sheet and Wilshere will more than likely be stepping foot into his gaffer’s office the second he heads to Colney for his first pre-season session.
