Report: Mourinho calls Sami Khedira but Arsenal remain favourites

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly called Sami Khedira regarding a possible move to the Blues, with Arsenal also allegedly interested.

According to a report in Spain, Jose Mourinho has personally called Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira in an attempt to convince him to sign for Chelsea rather than Arsenal.

The German midfielder has been strongly linked with both London clubs in recent times, with the latest stories hinting that the Gunners are in the box-seat.

However, website ABC claims the Chelsea manager has got on the phone to Khedira, who looks almost certain to leave the Bernabeu this summer.

Given the midfielders already at Mourinho’s disposal, a move for the German seems slightly surprising. But there is no doubt he would be an excellent addition, and the former Real boss will surely be loath to see such a quality player make the switch to Arsenal.

That said, Arsene Wenger’s men are in need of a quality defensive midfielder and Khedira is reportedly edging closer to a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Spanish report claims Arsenal have offered more for the player, but that Mourinho is hopeful Roman Abramovich will fund a move for a player he so often relied on during his time in the Spanish capital.
