Real Madrid fans vote to keep this player ahead of Khedira

Sami Khedira

Nearly 80% of Real fans that took part in the Marca poll chose to keep the South American star, with over half seeing him as superior to the Arsenal target.

With Real Madrid likely to be selling some top stars to bring in new talent such as reported targets Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, Spanish paper Marca conducted a poll to see who supporters would rather keep out of two of the players mooted to be available.

Marca asked who Real Madrid fans would rather keep out of Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira, while also having options for keeping both players and selling both.

Over 18,000 people took part, with 50.2% of the respondents voting to sell Khedira rather than Di María, with 28.2% keeping both players.

Only 13.3% would sell both players, and 8.3% saw the German as worth keeping over the former Benfica man.

Khedira's agent, poured cold water on rumours he had met with Arsenal or Chelsea representatives ahead of a possible move to England, but those rumours still remain.

Certain sources, including Sky Sports, have claimed that a deal is close to being agreed between Arsenal and Real Madrid for the German's transfer.

A £20 million fee has allegedly been agreed, with the Champions League winners deciding to cash in on their midfielder given that he has just a year left of his contract.

Former Real boss Jose Mourinho had been keen to bring his former player to Chelsea, but it looks like Arsene Wenger has beaten out his rival for the 27-year-old's signature.

It comes a year after Real sold another German to the Gunners in Mesut Ozil, a move that was met with significantly more hostility by Madrid supporters.

If Khedira were to move to Arsenal he would meet up with three other compatriots in Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski.

And though Marca readers have voted in favour of keeping Di Maria instead of the defensive midfielder, it is clear that the former Stuttgart midfielder has plenty to offer somebody.
