1) Mathieu Debuchy to complete Arsenal move imminently
Mathieu Debuchy is set to be unveiled as an Arsenal player today after Newcastle conclude a deal to bring Daryl Janmaat to St. James’ Park, according to wide ranging reports.
Debuchy has been identified as Arsenal’s replacement for Bacary Sagna, who left to join Manchester City at the start of the month, and is thought to be joining Arsene Wenger’s side for a fee of around £9 million.
His replacement at Newcastle has already been lined up, though, with Janmaat’s transfer a formality and the Magpies are set to announce it today.
2) Alan Pardew backs Siem de Jong to shine.
Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has backed new signing Siem de Jong to be a major hit at St. James’ Park.
The Dutch midfielder joined from Ajax earlier this summer and scored on his first appearance in a Newcastle shirt – netting a belter in the club’s 2-1 friendly defeat against Oldham Athletic last night.
And Pardew believes that there is a lot more to come from the 25-year-old.
“It was a nice bonus for us to see that quality on the pitch from one of our new players – it was a fantastic goal,” he said.
“Siem got a great goal and showed he is going to produce those moments.”
3) Real Betis want Sunderland’s Alfred N’Diaye.
Real Betis have re-entered negotiations to sign Sunderland midfielder Alfred N’Diaye, TalkSPORT report.
The 24-year-old went on loan to the Spanish club last season and impressed despite Betis’ relegation from La Liga.
Betis are now hoping to make the deal a permanent one for a cut price, after they turned down the option to sign him for £3.5 million at the end of his loan period.
It is thought that N’Diaye could now move for as little as £1.6 million, as no other teams have showed any interest in him.
4) Davide Astori tops Sunderland wishlist
Davide Astori has emerged as a candidate for a move to Sunderland this summer after the club asked to be kept informed on developments surrounding his future.
The 28-year-old has been offered to the Black Cats by his current club Cagliari and is known to want a move to England, although Lazio are also thought to be interested.
The likes of Leeds United, Manchester United and Spurs have all also been linked with making a move for the defender so if Sunderland do try and make a move they may have to outbid a host of other teams.
5) Emmanuel Ledesma ruled out for season start
Middlesbrough midfielder Emmanuel Ledesma will miss the start of the season after breaking a bone in his foot during pre-season.
Ledesma broke a metatarsal in training and is now set for a five week layoff, which would stop him playing in ‘Boro’s first few games of the upcoming campaign.
It is a blow for Aitor Karanka as he has already seen Mustapha Carayol ruled out due to injury this summer and it may force him into looking to bring in a wide-player due to a paucity of fit players in those positions.
