Manchester United latest: Van Gaal’s first day and Vidal ‘not for sale’

Louis van Gaal arrived for his first day as Manchester United manager today. The Dutch coach has now completed his work with the Netherlands and touched down in a private jet in Manchester at 8.40am today.

He took part in discussions with assistant manager Ryan Giggs and club chief executive Ed Woodward in full view of the watching media and posed for photographs. He will deliver his first official press conference at 3pm on Thursday.

In transfer news, United target Arturo Vidal insists he would be ‘happy’ to stay at Juventus is his proposed move to Old Trafford falls through.

The Chile midfielder told reporters in his homeland: "I am already at a great team like Juventus. That’s why it will not be a problem if the chance to join Manchester United falls through."

The Metro claims Arturo Vidal is demanding £150,000 per week in wages to sign for United.

However, Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta insists Arturo Vidal is not for sale amidst reports suggesting Louis van Gaal may have lost interest un United’s pursuit of the Chile star.

“Vidal is not for sale,” said Marotta. “He is one of the most important players in the squad. He is happy to be here. Many things have been written. We’ve never put him up for sale. Important clubs have asked after him, but we have never sat down to talk. The player decides and yesterday Vidal showed that he is happy to continue with us.”

United have taken highly-rated Watford youngster Ogo Obi on trial at the club’s Carrington Training complex. The 16-year-old has been previously linked with interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
