Reports emerged earlier this week that Arsenal had ‘agreed’ a £20 million deal with Real Madrid to sign midfielder and World Cup winner Sami Khedira.
The player’s agent, Jorg Neubauer insists however he has not received any contact from either the Gunners or Chelsea.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, formerly Khedira’s coach in the Spanish capital, was also reportedly attempting to convince the player to sign for the Blues but it now appears that neither club has reached any kind of agreement with European champions Real Madrid.
“We are not in talks with Arsenal,” Neubauer is quoted by the Daily Telegraph.
“I don’t think a fee can have been agreed, otherwise I would have been told. When a club have an interest I am sure they will call me and we will speak about things. The same goes for Chelsea.”
In fact, Neubauer goes one step further to suggest his client may in fact be more likely to agree to a new deal to stay on at the Bernabeu this summer, with his current contract expiring in less than 12 months.
“We are talking to Real Madrid about his contract, but nothing is close to being decided,” said Neubauer. “Sami has just returned from the World Cup and has gone on holiday.”
If this is indeed correct, it may be more likely that Sami Khedira will remain in the Spanish capital and the speculation over his future may be more an attempt to get him an improved deal that a mark of his desire to leave Real Madrid.
