Tottenham have opened talks over a new contract with defender Jan Vertonghen according to the London Evening Standard.

Vertonghen has attracted interest from Barcelona, and Spurs have since said the defender isn't available at any price, with the La Liga giants said to be prepared to pay £17.5 million for the centre-back.

Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino is said to regard Vertonghen as a key member of the squad.

Spurs have reportedly agreed a fee with Swansea City for left-back Ben Davies according to the Daily Telegraph.

Liverpool had an £8 million bid for the 21-year-old who has been identified by Pochettino as potentially the number one left-back at White Hart Lane.

Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has been talking to the Tottenham website ahead of their pre-season tour to North America.

The Icelandic international, who has been linked with a possible return to Swansea City said:

“The last time we were in America it was a really good pre-season and hopefully it will be the same again because the facilities are fantastic and I’m sure we’ll all enjoy our work.

“We’re up against good teams from the MLS and they are half-way through their season, so that makes a difference.

“It’s all about working hard and hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the start of the season, that’s what counts.”
