Carragher says Reds need two defenders and tips Rossiter for first team

The former Liverpool vice-captain is also a fan of Winston Reid from West Ham and would love Marco Reus to sign for the club.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said his old side needs two defenders in this transfer window following the Reds' defensive frailties during the previous campaign.

On his twitter page the Champions League winner said he was a fan of West Ham centre-back Winston Reid and says the bid for Southampton's Dejan Lovren shows that Brendan Rodgers wants his back line to improve following a campaign where they conceded 50 goals in the Premier League alone.

He has also tipped young midfielder Jordan Rossiter to break into the Liverpool first team, and said he would like to see Marco Reus at Anfield following speculation that the Reds may break their transfer record to bring the Borussia Dortmund forward to the Premier League as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez.

Rossiter featured in a post-season friendly against Shamrock Rovers in May, following an impressive season for the under-21s. The 17-year-old make 19 appearances for the Reds' second string and scored three goals during their league campaign.

Dejan Lovren has publicly spoken of his desire to play for Liverpool, and Southampton have reportedly rejected a £20 million bid for the Croatian. Cardiff City's Steven Caulker is amongst those mentioned as a potential target. Winston Reid's name hasn't been mentioned thus far.

Rumours surrounding Reus seem to be just rumours at the moment as Wilfried Bony has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield. There have also been rumours surrounding Loic Remy's future, who has been linked with a move to Merseyside amongst many other Premier League clubs.
