After watching Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres all struggle to hit the back of the net consistently last season, Jose Mourinho has finally landed a striker with the £32m capture of Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa. The Spanish international hit 35 goals last season, and Blues skipper John Terry is excited with the capture.

"First of all, his movement and his strength are really good - I was really surprised by it," said Terry, who played against the 25-year-old in the Champions League. "I think everyone remembers the square-up we had in the first 10 minutes of the first leg of our semi-final game against Atletico Madrid last season, after which I thought "fair play". He holds the ball up very well, he has got great movement and he is really physical, but he is very clever with his strength and the way he uses his body. I think he could be a very good signing for us."

Whilst Costa has arrived - along with midfielder Cesc Fabregas and left back Filipe Luis - there have been outgoings too, with young playmaker Thorgan Hazard sent out on loan once again. The 21-year-old, brother of Blues star Eden Hazard, spent last season with Zulte Waregem and will now move on to Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach - and hopes that his spell in the Bundesliga will help him in England.

"There was interest from Spain and Germany, but I had the best feeling with Gladbach," said Hazard. "They play attacking football, with lots of movement, and they will be in the Europa League. Did you see how Germany became world champions? That was a machine. I have to become a machine in Germany before I can move to the Premier League."

In transfer news, the Blues continue to be linked with a move to sign Real Madrid's Sami Khedira, and whilst Arsenal will seemingly rival them for his signature, Chelsea may need to sell a midfielder before they can buy another. Unsurprisingly, it's Nigerian international John Obi Mikel being linked with the Stamford Bridge exit door, with speculation suggesting that Chelsea have offered the 27-year-old a move to Italy for £10m.
