Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons yet again, as images over the weekend showed the England international drinking, smoking and partying in Las Vegas. Former Gunners boss George Graham has condemned the 22-year-old's conduct, saying he needs to get his act together if he ever wants to be Arsenal captain having seen his career stagnate.
"They were talking about him being a future Arsenal captain, and a captain shouldn't be acting like that," said Graham. "After the bad publicity shots in the newspapers, somebody has got to have a word with him. Arsene Wenger is the right man to deal with it. He wants a person to not only train well and eat well, but behave well. [Wilshere's] career has not gone anywhere in the last 18 months. The papers now want any sort of publicity of players misbehaving, and he has got to get his act together," the Scot added.
Wilshere's poor form and fitness issues have been to the benefit of fellow midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has become a key player at the Emirates Stadium. The Welshman racked up 12 goals and nine assists last season as he blossomed into one of the best midfield players in England, and the 23-year-old says he's looking to improve even more.
"I’m just happy [with my progress] and I want to keep on working on my game. Hopefully I can keep improving and get better and better. That’s my target now - just to improve on my game and keep on building every season," Ramsey told the Arsenal official website.
"I’ve been through a lot in my short career so far. I’ve had a bit of everything so it was nice to have a good season, score the number of goals that I did and be recognised a lot more. I’ve always believed in myself and what I can do, and I think a lot of people realised that last year and that’s what I’m more happy about," he added.
On the transfer front, reports this morning suggested that Arsenal were in talks with German international midfielder Sami Khedira over a move to North London. The Real Madrid star could leave the Spanish capital after the arrival of compatriot Toni Kroos, and Arsenal are believed to be near the front of the queue for his signature - only for agent Jorg Neubauer to deny any talk of contract negotiations.
"We are not in talks with Arsenal. I don't think a fee can have been agreed, otherwise I would have been told. When a club have an interest I am sure they will call me and we will speak about things. The same goes for Chelsea. We are talking to Real Madrid about his contract, but nothing is close to being decided. Sami has just returned from the World Cup and has gone on holiday," Neubauer said.
