Germany’s World Cup winning celebrations are just beginning and it looks as if the players are lapping up the adulation they are receiving from the public.
Die Mannschaft were crowned champions of the world on Sunday after a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra-time in the final.
The game itself was a cagey affair, but Joachim Loew’s side showed greater composure in front of goal, with Mario Gotze’s 113th-minute strike proving the difference.
As great as that success was, it may be their semi-final win over Brazil that is remembered even more greatly. Germany took on the hosts in the penultimate round of the competition and demolished them with a majestic display of attacking football.
The 7-1 win was fine reward for their complete and utter dominance in what was the Brazilians' first defeat on home soil in 39 years.
After that performance, there was a feeling that Germany were deserved winners of the competition and their eventual triumph was a rightful accolade.
It is a victory that has been a long time in the making, too, with the Germans revolutionising their footballing system after not winning a game in Euro 2004, and the celebrations show the joy that it has brought the country.
There is a real carnival feeling across the country, with over 300,000 people coming out to see their heroes celebrate with an open top bus tour and here are some of the best pictures from the event.
