People News: Barclays, UBS

For Hire

Barclays has named Jonathan Glionna as its head of U.S. equity strategy research.

Bloomberg News reports that Glionna will produce investment ideas and talk about issues facing money managers, according to Erica Chase, a spokeswoman for the bank.

He was previously head of global credit bank research at Barclays and replaces Barry Knapp, who left earlier this year to join BlackRock Inc.

In the meantime, Bloomberg also reports that UBS added three employees to its global event-driven opportunities group for market-making in special situations.

Nick Gustafson is joining as a senior trader in New York in September from Macquarie Group, after UBS hired Musaab Javed in London last month from investment bank Houlihan Lokey.

Also in London, UBS added Monica Ugidos in May from Citigroup. They’ll report to Tom Einhorn, head of the trading group created last August.

Finally Brad Mazur, the head of structuring in the U.S. for UBS, and an analyst, Howard Weinberg, have left the firm.

Bloomberg News reports that Chris MacKenzie, who previously reported to Mazur as head of credit and insurance structuring for the Americas, has taken over his responsibilities. Shiv Prakash will assume Weinberg’s duties as a high-yield debt analyst, Stinson.
