Jose Mourinho talks up importance of £70m Arsenal, Manchester United targets

Sami Khedira

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho feels both Argentina and Germany missed key stars in the World Cup Final.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has not been shy in giving his views during the course of the World Cup, and the same can be said regarding the final itself.

The 'Special One', in an interview with Yahoo, admitted how proud he was of Chelsea star Andre Schurrle's involvement in Germany's winning goal over Argentina.

Mourinho however had particularly kind words to say regarding two key players who were unable to feature in the final through injury, Angel di Maria, and Sami Khedira - who injured himself in a warm-up.

He described each of them as important to their teams, and certainly would seemingly prefer Manchester United and Arsenal fail in their ongoing pursuits of the duo.

"I think it (Di Maria's absence) was the same as Khedira for Germany, both teams missed these two players. They are players with a special energy, they are players that cover an unbelievable distance on the field.

"Khedira, mixed with the top quality of Schweinsteiger of Toni Kroos of Ozil they need Khedira to give them this physical balance in the team.

"And Di Maria, in spite of the fact he is a bit more creative than Khedira, is also a player who sometimes he loses a lot of possession because he risks so much but fantastic quality he gives to every team."

Mourinho himself was linked with signing Khedira for Chelsea over the weekend, and knows both stars from his time managing Real Madrid.

His comments regarding the German underline why he may be interested in him, as The Mirror suggested.

The balance Khedira brings to any side, would be beneficial to Chelsea's attacking options, with the club never really replacing Claude Makelele with a player of similar calibre in his position.
