The Barcelona B captain looks to be on his way to the City Ground.
The Barcelona B captain was linked to Forest after the Catalan club elected not to renew his contract, and now the 19-year-old has confirmed that he will play at the City Ground next season.
Today I start a new chapter in my life at @Official_NFFC . I'm really excited about this new project and I'm gonna give all for this team— Roger Riera (@RogerRiera_) July 15, 2014
Riera spent nine years at Barcelona, developing at the famous La Masia academy and captaining the side at every youth level. He won the UEFA Youth League with the club in April.
The Spaniard will bring great leadership to Forest despite still being a teenager, as well as excellent technical ability, having played alongside some of the most highly-rated youngsters in European football.
Signing Riera will be Forest's first foray into the largely untapped market of young Spanish players, and it will probably not be their last. The Reds have been building relationships with several clubs in Spain over the past year, with the hope of bringing in a number of new signings from Europe.
Riera will most likely begin his career in England in Forest's under-21 side, with the club looking to develop him for the first-team squad in the future.
He will be the second young defender to join the Reds this summer, after they completed the signing of 21-year-old Louis Laing from Sunderland.
