Piazon on his immediate future: 'I don't know what's going to happen'

Lucas Piazon spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

Young Chelsea midfielder Lucas Piazon says he doesn't know what will happen for him in the near future after returning from a loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem.

Piazon is described as an attacking midfielder, and it looks like a part of the midfield that is going to have plenty of competition, especially given the summer signing of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona along with established first team stars such as Eden Hazard and Oscar - so his first team opportunities may be limited, and it could lead to another spell away from Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old to the official Chelsea website: "I don’t know what is going to happen but at the moment I’m really happy to be here. I will play in pre-season until we make a decision and I will try to do what’s the best thing for me."

Piazon made a total of 34 appearances last season during his loan spell in the Netherlands, scoring 12 goals for Vitesse Arnhem as they finished in sixth place in the Eredivisie.

The Brazilian reflected on his experience in Holland, adding: "It was a really good experience. I played a lot of games which is very important for me now. I think I did a good job in the beginning. After about February until the end of the season the team dropped a little bit but if you see the season as a whole I think it was a good one for me.

"It’s a nice league. All the teams try to play football and try to play forward. Every team wants the ball. They want to play on the ground. They don’t play long balls, they always try to pass and so I think it’s a good league to play in."

It has been said that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho likes to work with a relatively smaller squad compared to his rivals, even if his side is competing on four fronts yet again next season.

If he is to get his opportunity at Stamford Bridge this term, it will be because his form will have impressed the Blues boss whilst playing in the Dutch league, but given the quality in the squad it could be difficult for him to break through.

As a result he may be in line for another loan spell, but if he impresses during the pre-season games he will certainly give Mourinho something to think about going into the next season.
