Manchester United star in row with ex-Nottingham Forest hero

Van Persie Holland

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been involved in a row with Pierre van Hooijdonk.

The Dutch camp at a major tournament is rarely complete without talk of a falling out or two, but this year under Louis van Gaal, such rumours were almost non-existent.

We say almost, because there was talk that Robin van Persie was jealous of the star status of Holland's other key man Arjen Robben.

This rumour was spread, report AD.nl, by former Nottingham Forest striker and Dutch pundit Pierre van Hooijdonk.

Asked about his celebration following his goal against Brazil, Van Persie responded: "That was meant for people who talk too much, as Pierre van Hooijdonk."

"I can take criticism very well. But what Van Hooijdonk doing is sowing unrest. He does not come with good arguments."

Van Persie is a former teammate of Van Hooijdonk at Feyenoord, and had stated ahead of the third placed play-off:

"He must have do something else with his family or something, or play golf. For his opinion, no one is listening. I am sorry that he has such a stage to do so."

Van Hooijdonk decided to respond via Twitter, but chose to take the high road, posting a humorous tweet in response to Van Persie.
