Newcastle completed the anticipated signing of Remy Cabella last night as the Frenchman signed a six-year contract at the club following his switch from Montpellier for a fee believed to be around £12 million.
The 24-year-old is the club's most expensive transfer for nine years, and he will now need to fill the void left by Yohan Cabaye's £20 million switch to Paris Saint-Germain in January.
The arrival of Cabella will hopefully add a creative spark back into the side, and the playmaker can score goals himself too as he netted 14 times for Montpellier in Ligue 1 during the last campaign.
Cabaye plays a little deeper than Cabella, but the creativity that both Frenchmen offer is key to their side's and Newcastle will need their new signing to replicate or better the performances of the now-PSG midfielder.

From their performances last season, Cabella outperformed Cabaye in several key areas by scoring twice as many goals and creating more chances for teammates.
Cabaye scored all seven of his goals for The Magpies during the last campaign as he struggled to see regular action at PSG after making the move.
The new Newcastle signing created 2.19 chances per game, an impressive amount compared to Cabaye's 1.24 though the 28-year-old completed more successful passes per game than Cabella managed.
In addition, Cabella just edged Cabaye in the average amount of tackles made per game and the statistics suggest that Newcastle have acquired an excellent replacement for their former French star.
The playmaker has one international cap as he replaced Cabaye as a substitute in Les Bleus 4-0 friendly win against Norway in May and he travelled to Brazil with France for the World Cup but did not feature.
He now has the chance to shine for Newcastle in the Premier League, and Cabella will be expected to lift the club back up the Premier League table with some strong performances in the upcoming campaign.
Is Cabella the ideal replacement for Cabaye?
