Germany player ratings v Argentina: Löw's boys win it in Rio

Joachim Löw's Germany side won the World Cup in style as they beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time, thanks to a Mario Götze strike.

Germany player ratings v Argentina

Manuel Neuer 9 - Didn’t put a foot or hand wrong all game or tournament. Even had the audacity to use his hands to lob it over an oncoming attacker and catch it safely again.

Philipp Lahm 8 - Superb again from the captain, still shows he has a lot of pace bombing it down the right wing. Truly deserved of collecting that trophy at the end.

Jerome Boateng 8 - Solid game from the Bayern Munich defender, much like his World Cup and stopped most of Argentina’s attacks.

Mats Hummels 7 - Showed that his turn of pace is slightly weak but other then that, had another decent performance. Defender of the World Cup.

Benedikt Höwedes 6 - Worst player for Germany tonight but that by no means he played bad. Didn’t deal with certain defensive situations as well as he could have.

Christoph Kramer 6 - Came in for the injured Sami Khedira and was unlucky as he himself was substituted only 30 minutes into the game with a head injury.

Bastian Schweinsteiger 9 - A fantastic game from this midfielder, gave everything for the cause and even took a cut under the eye.

Thomas Müller 8 - Couldn’t quite get the goal he needed for the golden boot but helped his team out massively going forward.

Toni Kroos 6 - After the World Cup he has had, it was a disappointing game.  Nearly cost his team the game with that terrible back pass header and should have done better with a laid off shot towards the end of normal time.

Mesut Özil 7 - Again went about his job quietly, intricate passes and great movement made it hard for Argentina to defend.

Mirslav Klose 6 - Found it hard on his own up top, and struggled to latch on to anything but can walk away a legend from the World Cup.

André Schürrle 7 - Every time this man has come off the bench he has made an impact, this time it was the superb cross for the Mario Götze goal.

Mario Götze 10 - A lot of people thought he would have got many more minutes heading into this World Cup but when his chance came, boy did he take it. Taking Schürrle’s cross on the chest and then burying the volley into the net. His rating alone is for the strike that won Germany the World Cup.
