While their football side has finally reclaimed the ultimate prize following a 24-year wait, German success on the grand prix scene has been almost constant for the past two decades. Michael Schumacher won an incredible seven world titles between 1994 and 2004, and in 2010 Sebastian Vettel picked up the mantle by winning four championships in succession.
This season the Mercedes team have been dominant, with their drivers - Germany's Nico Rosberg and Brit Lewis Hamilton - currently one-two in the drivers' world championship. As well as Vettel and Rosberg, the country can also lay claim to the highly-rated Nico Hulkenberg and Sauber's Adrian Sutil.
And some of those stars took to Twitter to celebrate their nation's win over Argentina in the Maracana yesterday.
