Newcastle United are in danger of missing out on Manchester United and one-tine England international Wilfried Zaha amid reports indicating that Dinamo Moscow are out to hijack the Magpies’ bid.
According to The Sun, the wealthy Russian club are plotting a move for the out-of-favour Red Devils star, who was previously linked with a St James’ Park switch.
Newcastle United currently lead the way for the former Crystal Palace youngster, who could arrive on Tyneside for just £7 million but that could change if their Moscow-based transfer market rivals up their bid for Zaha.
Able to offer the midfielder a bumper contract to play in the Russian Premier League, the 21-year-old could be tempted to take the money and run after a difficult time at Old Trafford.
Signed for an initial £10 million fee that was supposed to rise to as much as £15 million based on future add-ons, Zaha made just two Premier League appearances for United before being shipped out to Cardiff City on loan.
But things hardly improved there, with the tricky winger playing just 10 times in the Premier League for the Bluebirds who were relegated from the top-flight.
And while Newcastle have expressed an interest in recruiting the player, it would appear that Zaha is eager to return to London, having reportedly called on Crystal Palace to launch a bid.
With life up north proving difficult for the former Croydon resident, the chance for a fresh start in Russia could tempt.
However if Zaha is keen on rebuilding his reputation in England and pushing for a place in the Three Lions squad as we look to Euro 2016, then Newcastle must be his first choice.
He may not necessarily have a chance though, with Manchester United likely to favour the more substantial offer, as they look to recoup some of the losses incurred on the player.
Newcastle may have to move fast if they want to get their man.
