Arsenal fans are still celebrating the club's move to sign Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean completed a £32m switch to the Emirates Stadium. It's the second marquee signing in less than 12 months after the capture of Mesut Ozil, and Gunners right back Carl Jenkinson says that the club are excited to have such a quality player in their ranks.
"He is a fantastic player, everyone at the club is buzzing about it," said Jenkinson. "It is a similar feeling to when Mesut Ozil signed last year. He is world class and they’re the sort of players you want to see at the club. The squad are buzzing as much as the fans, because if you’re going to push on as a club and really compete for things, you need to sign top players."
"We have done that with him for sure - it is a fantastic addition. Everyone is over the moon that we have signed someone of that calibre. He’s quick and direct, he can play up front and on the wing, and he is very dynamic. He will definitely fit the Arsenal style of play, and he is very similar to Theo in the sense that he is very quick and tricky. If you’re world class then you fit into any side and he’s definitely in that category," added the 22-year-old.
Sanchez is currently expected to play on the right hand side, and that would normally be opposite Santi Cazorla. However, the diminutive Spaniard has been linked with a move way from North London this summer, with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid reportedly looking to bring him back to Spain - but the 29-year-old says he has no intention of leaving.
"I’m happy here", said Cazorla. "I want to play for Arsenal for a few more years. Next year I play for Arsenal, of course. I always try to give my best on and off the pitch. I’m a happy guy, I’m a funny guy. I try to bring a good mood into the changing rooms on and off the pitch and that is what I will continue to do this year."
Elsewhere, the Gunners are expected to tie up a deal for Newcastle right back Mathieu Debuchy in the coming days, as the Frenchman moves closer to an £8m switch. However, manager Arsene Wenger could also be looking to bring in another right back and has already been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid's Javier Manquillo.
Today, however, it's Southampton's Calum Chambers suggested as a target for the Gunners. The 19-year-old was the latest youngster to impress with the Saints last season, and with Debuchy approaching 29, adding a young player behind the former Lille man may be a great idea.
