Mourinho considers Pastore over Pogba - Three questions and reaction

PSG star Javier Pastore has been suggested as an alternative to Paul Pogba for Chelsea.

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for PSG midfielder Javier Pastore as an alternative to Frenchman Paul Pogba.

The Blues were one of the sides linked with a £60 million deal for Pogba, but his agent Mino Raiola, has ruled that out, branding the idea a ‘fantasy’.

Reports suggest that Pastore impressed Mourinho when Chelsea and PSG met in the Champions League last season, which is the reason the Portuguese coach is considering an apparent move.

Here are three questions and reactions from Chelsea fans.

Where will he fit in?

Pastore’s main position is attacking midfield, where Chelsea already have two very good options.

Brazilian Oscar is most likely to start in the number ten role next season, with Cesc Fabregas just in behind him in central midfield. Fabregas can also play the number ten role behind Diego Costa.

Does he have the game to fit in at Chelsea?

One of the pressing things Mourinho is now demanding from all of his players is extra work rate and extra defensive effort.

Oscar has transformed that side of his game and it’s one of the reasons Juan Mata was allowed to leave for Manchester United.

If Pastore doesn’t adjust to the way Mourinho likes to play Premier League football, with a heavily defensive element, he could quickly become frustrated, especially if he’s not starting frequently.

How difficult would it be for Chelsea to do a deal?

In short, fairly difficult.

Pastore is a key component of this PSG side and rated at around the £25 million mark, there would be a lot of competition for his signature from top flight European teams. That would push the fee up and make it more difficult for Chelsea to speak exclusively with the player and his representatives.
