Daniel Sturridge Liverpool

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge put club and national rivalry aside as Arsenal and Germany's Lukas Podolski lifted the World Cup.

Germany won their first World Cup since 1990 thanks to a stunning extra-time goal from Mario Gotze.

They defeated a Lionel Messi led Argentina, who had glorious chances of their own to win over the 120 minutes.

Four Premier League stars can now boast of being World Cup winners, being Lukas Podolski, Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker of Arsenal, and Chelsea's Andre Schurrle.

the congratulations will come pouring in for the quartet, and one Premier League rival has already put club rivalry aside to offer his best wishes to one Germany start at least.

Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge congratulated 'brother' Lukas Podolski via Twitter, illustrating a previously unheard of friendship between the pair.

Sturridge featured at the World Cup for England, scoring against Italy in the opener, but has been back home since his side's early elimination.
