Chelsea reportedly have bid rejected for Faouzi Ghoulam

Chelsea are said to have had an offer for Napoli's Algerian defender Faouzi Ghoulam turned down.

Chelsea have had an offer for Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam rejected according to Sky Sports Italia.

Football Italia have since picked up on the claim, which is somewhat surprising given the Blues apparent pursuit of Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis.

The Brazilian is said to be training with the reserves in Spain after he reportedly pushed for a move away from the La Liga champions.

That claim comes after contrasting reports regarding the player’s future, with Chelsea said to be unwilling to match Luis’s release-clause.

So if the Blues did indeed move for Ghoulam, was it as an alternative to Luis or to show Atletico that they had more than one option to replace the departed Ashley Cole?

The Ghoulam rumour is a surprising one given that it appeared to be a straight choice between Luis and Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo as to who would take the spot on the left side of defence at Stamford Bridge next season.

But whatever the interest in Ghoulam, it has reportedly been rejected, which makes sense considering Napoli only signed the Algeria international in January.

The 23-year-old has a contract at the Serie A side until the summer of 2018. And despite reportedly attracting a number of admirers following his performances at the World Cup, it seems Rafa Benitez has no intention of cashing in.
