Two players related to Manchester United stars turned out for Crawley Town in a friendly match on Friday.
Crawley Town ran out 9-0 winners in their friendly match against Billingshurst on Friday evening, but it was the presence of two trialists in particular that caught the eye.
Young even got on the score-sheet as he looked to impress Crawley boss John Gregory.
It was a far cry from the heady occasions enjoyed by the more famous members of their respective families, but both players will be hoping to get a chance at the League One club.
Young is a 24-year-old right-winger who previously played for Bury. He has been very much a journeyman player despite his age, having also turned out for Watford, Hereford United, Aldershot, Yeovil, Burton Albion and Northampton Town to date.
But his goal on Friday would have done his chances of earning a contract at Crawley no harm.
Gomes’s story is slightly different, having followed his cousin Nani to United and come through the ranks at the club’s academy.
Despite that he was unable to make his mark at the club and was released in 2012.
The Portuguese winger unsurprisingly drew similarities to his cousin but he instead moved to Stalybridge Celtic.
In some sense Gomes’s time at United echoes Nani’s with the older winger unable to regularly perform at his best despite having considerable talent.
