However, Reds stalwart Jamie Carragher's ideal player in the position he used to frequent for Brendan Rodgers' side does not play in the Premier League.
Instead, Carragher wants Real Madrid and France centre-back Varane on Merseyside.
I would love to see Varane from Madrid. Also like Garay of Argentina but just moved to Zenit from Benfica.

And it is little wonder why, of course.
Jose Mourinho has previously described him as the best young defender in the world, while Varane is held in high regard at Real, also being a first-choice defender for his national side.

As Opta stats show, Varane won more tackles than his fellow French centre-backs put together at the World Cup, as well as winning more interceptions.
The 21-year-old struggled in the air, however, winning just three aerial duels and being beaten to the ball by Mats Hummels for the goal that sent France out of the tournament.
Nevertheless, the Kop would surely welcome Varane with open arms. But, as optimistic as Carragher may be, a defender so talented and so young will be difficult to prise away from the Bernabeu.
And if he was to leave Madrid, Liverpool certainly would not be the only interested party.
