Colombian star admits it would be hard to turn down the prospect of a move to Real Madrid this summer.
Colombia star James Rodriguez has commented on the rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid this summer, and appears keen on a switch.
Rodriguez has only been with French club AS Monaco for a season following his €45million transfer from Porto last year, but is reportedly on Madrid’s radar following his stellar World Cup campaign.
The 23-year-old scored six goals in five games as Colombia went to the quarter-finals of the tournament in Brazil, and has been nominated as a contender for the Golden Ball.
Rodriguez has sent the transfer gossip mill into overdrive as he stunned defences on the world stage throughout the finals, having also been linked with the likes of Manchester United.
But now Colombia’s new golden boy has finally had his say on any potential move, and would seemingly prefer a move to Real Madrid.
“I would go to Madrid with my eyes shut,” he reportedly told Spanish outlet Marca.
“I respect other teams a lot, but Madrid is Madrid. To play with CR7, Benzema and Bale is a dream.”
Reports have also linked Rodriguez’s international team-mate Radamel Falcao with a move to the Bernabéu, as Madrid look to win back the La Liga crown from neighbours Atletico. It is still unknown as to what figures Monaco would want for both Rodriguez and Falcao, with both men only one year into their contracts and the return of Champions League football next season.
The thought of Rodriguez playing in behind Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale will further frighten their opponents for the coming season. Madrid, who won the Champions League for the tenth time back in May, are set to compete fiercely once again with Barcelona in the transfer market, as the Catalan club beat them to the signing of Luis Suarez on Friday.
As for Rodriguez, his comments pave the way for Madrid to move, but expect a hefty asking price for what appears to be one of the world’s brightest young talents.
