The Algeria front-man has been linked here, there and everywhere in recent weeks, with West Ham United strongly tipped to make a move for the Sporting Lisbon player, before Crystal Palace were said to be preparing a £10million bid for him.
But the latest suggestion is that Leicester are about to enter the race with a bid of €8million.
That would be considerably less than Palace were said to have been considering, which suggests those reports were not quite as close to the mark as first thought.
But one thing is for sure, Slimani is hot property this summer following an impressive World Cup – during which he scored two goals – and a fine campaign for Sporting as they surged to a second-place finish in the Primeira Liga.
Given the number of clubs linked with the 26-year-old and yet the apparent lack of concrete bids, it could be suggested that Slimani’s representatives want a move more than his numerous suitors do.
But he certainly has the talent to succeed in the Premier League, with his knack for finishing and intelligent running off the ball sure to be welcome by one of the English top-flight’s mid-table clubs.
