Swansea are already believed to be in talks with Napoli over a deal for Spanish forward Michu, who looks set to join the Italian club this summer.
However, the negotiations are still in progress as the Swans are keen to land the Serie A side's defender Federico Fernandez and a straight swap-deal could be agreed between the two clubs, despite the fact that Napoli want Michu on loan with the option to buy.
Fernandez has played a key role in Argentina's World Cup campaign and has helped his side get to the final after making four appearances so far in the tournament.
Manchester City's Martin Demichelis has replaced the 25-year-old in the last two games against Belgium and the Netherlands and is expected to keep his place in the side ahead of the final against Germany tomorrow.
However, Swansea have been impressed with Fernandez's performances and are ready to make a move after following the defender for some time, with Gary Monk keen to re-shape his defence ahead of the new season.
Napoli are not thought to be willing to let Fernandez go, but their interest in Michu might see the two clubs come to an agreement when the centre-back returns from Brazil.
Garry Monk is reportedly hoping to offload the inconsistent Chico Flores this summer, and Fernandez would be a direct replacement for the Spanish defender.

However, Chico outperformed Fernandez defensively last season, but made four defensive errors, three more than Fernandez and Gary Monk is not willing to keep a defender that is prone to costly mistakes.
If a deal is agreed, Swansea could have a World Cup winner at the back next season to partner Ashley Williams but discussions between the Swans and Napoli look set to continue until Fernandez returns from the tournament in Brazil.
