Arsenal are reportedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender, but so far they have not made any offer.

The Gunners have long been linked with a move for the 25-year-old Germany international, who has been on the books of Bayer since 2009.

The German club’s sporting director Rudi Voller has now stated that Bender is not going to be sold this summer.

‘Firstly, we have not received an official offer’, he told Kolner Stadt Anzeiger, as reported by ‘Secondly, Lars wants to stay with us. And although we recruited Hakan Calhanoglu, Bender is not for sale. We have big ambitions’.

Another midfielder that Arsenal have been linked with this summer is Sami Khedira. The Germany international has just one year left on his current contract with Real Madrid, and there are reports that negotiations over a new deal have broken down.

The Express has now reported that Chelsea have joined the race to sign the 27-year-old former Stuttgart star.

Blues manager Jose Mourinho worked with Khedira for three years during his time at Madrid and reportedly wants to add him to his squad for the 2014-15 season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has urged his Germany teammates to maintain their standards when they take on Argentina in the final of the 2014 World Cup on Sunday.

The European giants hammered hosts Brazil 7-1 in the semi-finals, and the centre-back believes that the team should not drop their standards.

‘We must play the same way that we did against Brazil, otherwise we have no chance’ Sky Sports quotes the 29-year-old as saying. ‘Our performance against Brazil was nearly 100%... Our main target is to win the final. We want to finish on a high. We want more history’.
