Tottenham morning news: ‘Several clubs’ interested in defender, Spurs want Chelsea target?

All the morning news, views and transfer rumours from White Hart Lane...

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is on the radar of a number of clubs, according to his agent.

The 27-year-old Belgium international has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer.

Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly one of the clubs interested in the versatile defender who can play both at centre-back and at left-back.

The former Ajax star’s agent has now revealed that ‘several clubs’ are interested in his client.

‘Several teams are interested in Jan’, Mustapha Nakhil told Het Nieuwsblad. ‘I cannot confirm or deny whether Barcelona are one of them.

‘Tottenham is not a small club. It’s too soon to give them an answer. Several clubs have registered their interest in Jan. We’ll see’.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT claims that Tottenham are preparing to make a bid for Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis.

The Brazil international left-back has long been linked with a move to Chelsea, although the deal has yet to go through because of the Blues failing to meet the Spanish club’s transfer fee demands.

It has now been reported that Spurs are looking to make their own move for the 28-year-old former Deportivo La Coruna star and will offer Atletico a cash-plus-player offer.

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has said that he is looking forward to the upcoming 2014-15 campaign.

The England international enjoyed a breakthrough 2013-14 season, but suffered with injuries in the second half of the campaign.

The 22-year-old has now stated that he is raring to go after recovering from his ankle problem.

‘It’s a big season for me’, he told the club’s official website. ‘Last season was my breakthrough for club and country and it’s important for me to build on that and show more consistency.

‘I’m 23 next week and that will come with age. Hopefully this season I’ll build on what I started last season, try to get a sustained place in the team and not just have a good start like last season’.
