Vertonghen's agent refuses to confirm Barcelona link

The agent of Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has refused to confirm whether Barcelona are interested in signing the Belgian defender this summer.

Vertonghen has been linked with a move to Barcelona for some time and rumours have surfaced once again in the wake of his World Cup displays that the Catalan giants will make a move for him.

The 27-year-old is believed to be who Barcelona will target if they cannot secure the signing of PSG's Marquinhos, but Vertonghen's agent, Mustapha Nakhli, has not confirmed whether the La Liga outfit are interested.

"Several teams are interested in Jan, I cannot confirm or deny whether Barcelona are one of them.

"Tottenham is not a small club. It's too soon to give them an answer. Several clubs have registered their interest in Jan. We'll see," he said.

The Belgian defender has a contract at Spurs until 2016 and the North London club will have no plans to sell him as they look ahead to the new season.

The versatile defender will be a key member of Mauricio Pochettino's squad at Spurs next season, and the club will hope that they can keep the former-Ajax man.

Hugo Lloris as already pledged his future to Spurs by signing of a new five-year contract, and retaining Vertonghen as well would be a major boost for The Lilywhites.
